Tarmo Toom, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Latin Patristics

Patristic hermeneutics, Augustine, and Trinitarian theology.
Biography
Tarmo Toom is a native of Estonia. He has studied theology in Switzerland and the United States, obtaining his Ph.D. from the CUA in Historical Theology. In 2004-2008, he was an Associate Professor of Divinity in the John Leland Center for Theological Studies. He is a member of International Association of Patristic Studies (I.A.P.S.) / L’Association Internationale d’Études Patristiques (A.I.E.P.), North American Patristics Society, the Steering Committee for Augustine and Augustinianisms Group for AAR, and a Regular Contributor to Reviews in Religion and Theology.
He has authored three books: Thought Clothed with Sound: Augustine's Christological Hermeneutics in De doctrina Christiana (Peter Lang, 2002), Classical Trinitarian Theology: A Textbook (T&T Clark, 2007), and A Companion to Augustine’s Confessions (in Estonian) (Tallinn: Allika, 2010). He has contributed articles to reference works, such as The Blackwell Encyclopedia of Theologians (Blackwell, 2009), The New Westminster Dictionary of Church History (Westminster John Knox, 2009), and the Encyclopedia of Eastern Orthodox Christianity (Blackwell, 2010). His works have been translated into German, Spanish, and Russian.
