David Lantigua, Ph.D. 
– Assistant Professor of Moral Theology




David Lantigua received his Ph.D. in the area of Moral Theology/Christian Ethics from the University of Notre Dame in 2012. During his doctoral studies, he conducted dissertation research in Spain and was a graduate fellow at the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study.

Dr. Lantigua’s primary area of research focuses on sixteenth-century Spanish scholastic retrievals of Aquinas’s moral theology to address the topics of natural law, political authority, ecclesiastical power, empire, toleration, and evangelization. His scholarly interests also include medieval and modern Catholic social thought, Latin American theology, comparative religious ethics, and the development of human rights in the Christian tradition.

He has published articles in the Journal of Moral Theology and Church Life: A Journal for the New Evangelization. He has articles forthcoming in Modern Theology and The Oxford Handbook of Latin American Christianity. He is co-editor and co-translator with historian Lawrence A. Clayton for The Essential Bartolomé de las Casas: A Brief History with Documents (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2015). He is also co-author with Darrell Fasching and Dell deChant for Comparative Religious Ethics: A Narrative Approach to Global Ethics, 2nd Edition (Wiley-Blackwell, 2011).

Dr. Lantigua has three daughters and is married to Marisa, a Florida native. They live as faculty in residence at CUA.
